Open Question: manual or automatic???? please help!!?

so im 16 and im probably going to get a Honda Civic. (1992-1999) everyone in my family knows how to drive a stick shift, and so i want to learn because every other year we fly to germany to visit, and ALL they have is manual cars. i want an automatic because it seems like you can get up to speed faster (going on freeway) and it just seems easier, but i want to learn how to drive stick. should i have my first car be a stick shift? what i was thinking was getting a stick shift for my first car, and if i didnt like it i could just get an automatic like the year later or something. but then atleast i would know how to drive one. any suggestions?...
